Advocacy: Open Source Solutions

Open Source Software (OSS) embodies our highest ideals as a community of developers. By sharing source code we generate knowledge, promote education, improve the reliability and security of our systems, reduce total costs of ownership and, most importantly, preserve accessability to our progeny. Open data standards are absolutely necessary for a prosperus, thriving digital ecosystem. The dangers of proprietary lock-in are as frustrating as they are uneccessary. Companies that purposefully promote them are anti-competitive and inhibit the free market. We support Open Source Software through various affiliations, donations and code contributions. Open source is vital to our work, as it should be, and we champion it where ever we are able.


The Ruby is our "go to" programming language. Ruby is a dynamic, open source programming language with a focus on simplicity and productivity. It has an elegant syntax that is natural to read and easy to write.	Ruby on Rails is an open-source web framework that's optimized for programmers happiness and sustainable productivity. It let's you write beautiful code by favoring convention over configuration.	The jQuery is a fast and concise JavaScript Library that simplifies HTML document traversing, event handling, animating, and Ajax interactions for rapid web development. jQuery is designed to change the way that you write JavaScript.

RubyWorks is a collection Ruby libraries to aide the Ruby programmer. The libraries cover a wide spectrum of needs, from dynamic annotations system to a rubyesque support library for the XDG directory standard.	ProUtils is a set of Ruby-based development tools. These tools were built over the course of developing to simplify the the process of developing and delivering Ruby software.	TigerOps is an open-source advocacy group and programming club we help sponser. Members contribute to a set of open-source projects. You can learn more about Tiger Ops at tigerops.org.

They generously provide free Git repository hosting to open source projects. We can't thank them enough.	Xerox might not get a great deal of press these days, but when it comes to paper documents they are heads and shoulders above the competition.
